Art Opening: A*OK and High School Show 2025

To celebrate our island youth, a student art exhibit is being hosted at the Orcas Center from April 25 – May 19th. The show features art created in A*OK classes, Kindergarten through 8th grade, as well as pieces from the Orcas Island High School.

We hope to see you at the opening and artist reception – Friday, April 25th from 4:30pm – 6pm in the Madrona Room at the Orcas Center. Orcas Island High School art students will be giving brief talks about their work and these presentations should not be missed!

This school year, Art for Orcas Kids engaged K-8th grade students in a variety of hands-on art projects, exploring new creative techniques and personal expression. You will see a variety of works including Chinese New Year Snakes, Día de los Muertos Skulls, Snowy Owls, Cardboard Self-Portraits, Geometric and Organic Shape Collages, and even 3-D optical illusion art with Agamographs. The Middle School Exploratory participated in a Fall Guest Artist Series featuring painting, felting, charcoal, and portrait illustration. In addition, over the winter, the students worked on Play production by developing and creating Sets and Props for the Middle School Play.

The exhibit in the lobby features the diverse talents of Orcas High School students from beginner to advanced, including our AP-level artists. This exhibition showcases a wide range of projects, from teacher-guided pieces to fully developed student-driven artworks, reflecting both skill development and personal expression. The show includes sculptures, paintings, drawings, collages, and more, capturing the vibrant energy and passion of youth. Don’t miss the AP artist reception on the evening of Friday, April 25th, where our advanced students will share insights into their work during a special Q&A session. Come celebrate the boundless creativity and enthusiasm of our young artists!
